Saft, manufacturer and designer of high-tech batteries for industry, announced its contract with Lanco Infratech Ltd to provide back-up power for Nagarjuna thermal Power Plant at Udupi. The high performance nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries will be manufactured at Amco Saft India plant at Bangalore. The contract values about Rs 37.5 million (approximately € 600,000) and represents the single largest order received for this type of battery by Amco Saft India Ltd. Since it’s inception in 2006, the Bangalore plant witnessed a number of technology and industrial investments to increase production capacity and establish battery assembly capabilities for aviation and railway batteries. The entity is benefiting from Saft’s group world-wide leadership in the manufacture of Ni-Cd battery solutions for the industrial and transport sectors. “This prestigious order is a breakthrough for our group in the fast-growing Indian market” commented Xavier Delacroix, Saft’s Industrial Battery Group Director. He further added, “It represents a major market for Saft where there is potential to significantly expand our existing client base”.
