Industry-Academia Meet on Automation and Robotics

Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), jointly with Automation Industry Association (AIA), Ghaziabad Management Association and Noida Management Association, had organised Industry-Academia Meet on 12 August, 2008. The symposium was themed on ‘Technical Education to sustain Industrial Application of Automation & Robotics.’ Dr R K Agarwal, Director, AKGEC, delivered the welcome speech and Prof O P Gupta, Executive Director, GMA, spoke about the meet. Sunil Khanna, President, AIA and Managing Director, Emerson Process Management, briefed on the ‘Campus Connect’ initiative for automation and robotics by AIA. Dr B S Sahay, Director IMT, Ghaziabad, delivered the keynote address. Rohit Bharadwaj Executive Director (M&I), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, said that the relationship between the academia and industry is not just one of technology donor-recipient, but interactive, collaborative and participative in nature. Addressing the gath-ering, Chief Guest Dr M S Vijayaraghvan, Scientific Advisor to the Government of India and Director, SETS, Chennai, stressed to bridge the gap between industry and academia and advised the industry of the region to come forward and take the advantage of pool of talent being nurtured by the upcoming self-financed engineering colleges of this region. The technical sessions on ‘Impact assessment of Center of Excellence’ and ‘Leveraging Centers of Excellence for Industry clusters around Pune’ and various case studies presented by the academic and industry experts provided an insight on how industry academia partnership will be beneficial. The panelists contributed hugely to the discussion on issues like syllabus, employability, and training of students, faculty and recruitment.
